PETROLEUM (OIL) IN WASHINGTON COUNTY

HISTORY

There was an oil boom in Virgin in 1907.

Oil was also discovered in Bloomington.

On the evening of March 6, 1935, the Escalante No. 1 oil well exploded killing 10 people and seriously injuring 2 others. For details on the event, click here.
