HISTORY

In 1952, Washington County residents pooled their resources to build and open the Dixie Pioneer Memorial Hospital replacing the old McGregor Hospital. It was owned and operated by Washington County.

Effie Marie Cottam was Supervisor of Nursing. One of the night nurses was Edith Sproul Seegmiller.

Dr. Craig Booth began his career in 1973 as a family practice physician as the sixth member of the medical staff at the Dixie Pioneer Memorial Hospital.

In 1975, the Dixie Pioneer Memorial Hospital was expanded to accomodate regional growth and became the Dixie Medical Center.

The old Dixie Pioneer Memorial Hospital building was torn down, probably in the early 1990s as DRMC expanded and remodeled the 400 East Women's Services area.
